On fourth down, with his team leading 31-28 on Thursday night, Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt took the snap, ran it back six yards and knelt, giving ASU the win over Texas State.

At least that’s what we thought.

After a lengthy review, officials called the teams back onto the field and gave Texas State one final play with 1 second left on the clock from their own 30-yard line. ASU was able to recover a fumble on the play, preventing a Bobcat miracle, but social media was stunned by the decision to give Texas State another play.

The ESPN broadcast of the match had already ended. The final was not broadcast, because it had already switched to SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt.
