Playboi Carti Announces New Album ‘Music’, Shares Single ‘All Red’: Listen

Playboi Carti has been keeping a low profile for a while now. The Atlanta rapper has released a string of singles over the past year — “Different Day,” “2024,” “EvilJ0rdan,” “Ketamine,” the Travis Scott collaboration “BACKR00MS” — but he’s only posted them on places like Instagram and YouTube. They haven’t appeared on streaming services. He’s appeared on high-profile singles for the likes of Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, Future and Metro Boomin, and Camila Cabello. He postponed his long-awaited arena tour just before it was scheduled to kick off, and it hasn’t been rescheduled. So what’s going on? We still don’t really know, but Carti just announced his long-awaited new album. Sort of.

Playboi Carti’s follow-up to the great album from 2020 Very much red is mentioned Music — it brings people together — and it has a pre-order link now. But Music has no cover art, a tracklist, or—most importantly—a release date. If you try to pre-order music, Carti’s webstore assures you: “Product will ship no later than six months after September 12, 2024.” Not very reassuring!

But there’s a new song. Carti’s new single “All Red,” produced by frequent collaborators F1LTHY and OjiVolta, is an urgent, droning anthem with a hook about the inverted cross tattoo on Carti’s neck. He raps the whole thing in his lower register, sounding a little like Future, and he displays the instinctive, berserker swagger that’s always set him apart. The song is available on streaming services, and it’s Carti’s first solo joint to get a proper commercial release since Very much redCheck it out below.
