Taylor Swift asks fans to vote after Kamala Harris show of support

Taylor Swift chose her words carefully when she spoke about the 2024 election at the MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday night.

Although the superstar made waves earlier this week with her endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, Swift did not want to directly get involved in politics during the musical show at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

While the “Fortnight” singer thanked her followers for voting for her to win the coveted Video of the Year award, she reminded people of another important competition coming up.

“The fact that this is a fan-voted award and you voted for this, I really appreciate it,” she told the cheering crowd. “And if you’re over 18, please register to vote in something else that’s very important: the 2024 presidential election.”

Swift left the stage without immediately indicating which candidate he wanted to support.

But on Tuesday night, the star dropped a shocking endorsement for Harris, just minutes after the vice president’s debate with former President Donald Trump ended.

In the “Karma” singer’s announcement, she praised Harris as someone who “fights for the rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend.”

The Instagram post was captioned “Childless Cat Lady,” a nod to Trump’s running mate JD Vance and his much-discussed comments about “miserable” left-wing women without children.

It appears Swift’s political statement is already having a major impact on the race.

A customized link the pop star shared on Instagram that directed to Vote.gov had been clicked on more than 337,000 times as of Wednesday, according to the General Services Administration, the agency that oversees the website.
