Bridge fire now raging in LA, San Bernardino, reaches Mt. High – NBC Los Angeles

Dozens of homes were destroyed by the Bridge Fire. The blaze moved quickly and raged through Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, leaving a trail of destruction on Wednesday.

The wildfire, which spread across the region, had burned 47,904 hectares by Wednesday morning and was 0% contained.

About 20 homes at Mt. Baldy and 13 homes in Wrightwood were destroyed, while six wilderness cabins were lost in the fire.

“It’s heartbreaking. We were just here, walking these trails. We had a picnic three days ago. It’s all gone,” said Dennis Hawkins, a Wrightwood resident. “I’m blessed to be alive. My wife and dog are OK. But it’s going to take a while for this town to feel good about itself again.”

About 2,500 buildings were threatened as firefighters feared the fire would spread further due to the red flag warning.

There have been no reports of serious injuries or deaths.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“This is currently the largest active fire in the state of California,” said LA County Fire Marshal Anthony Marrone. “Our priority remains protecting lives and defending structures and infrastructure.”

The massive flames from the bridge fire reached the Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood, “briefly contacting several lifts.”

“Initial reports indicate that the base facilities remained intact,” the resort said in a statement. “Los Angeles County Fire Station 130, stationed at the West Resort, has been credited with doing an incredible job defending the property.”

The resort said Wednesday there were no reports of structural damage after the shooting, as it still expects to open in time for the upcoming ski season.
