Donald Trump says Taylor Swift will ‘pay a price’ for her support of Kamala Harris

Former President Donald Trump shrugged off Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign, while also taking a moment to compliment Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“I was not a fan of Taylor Swift,” Trump said in a morning interview with Fox & Friends on Wednesday September 11. “It was just a matter of time… But she’s a very liberal person. She always seems to support a Democrat. And she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.”

The 34-year-old “Cruel Summer” singer supported Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, on Instagram following the Harris-Trump presidential debate in Philadelphia.

“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight,” Swift, 34, wrote in her post, accompanied by a photo of herself holding a cat. “If you haven’t already, now is a good time to do your research on the issues at hand and the positions these candidates are taking on the topics that matter most to you. As a voter, I will make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”

Swift called out the fake AI-generated images that showed her supporting the former president, which the president shared on his platform Truth Social.

“It really brought to the forefront my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift added. “It made me realize that I need to be very transparent about my real plans for this election as a voter. The easiest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election,” the pop star continued. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend. I think she’s a determined, talented leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country when we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so encouraged and impressed by her choice of running mate @timwalz, who has been advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to control her own body for decades.”

Swift captioned her post, “Childless Cat Lady,” a reference to controversial comments made by Trump’s 2021 running mate JD Vance.

In the same Fox interview, Trump said he liked Swift’s girlfriend Brittany Mahomes, 29, “much better.”

“She’s a huge Trump fan,” the former president said, later adding, “I like Brittany. I think Brittany is great… She’s a huge MAGA fan. I like her way more than Taylor Swift.”

Brittany’s husband, Patrick, 28, is a teammate of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, 34, who is in a relationship with Swift.

Multiple media outlets previously reported that Swift and Brittany, who have watched Chiefs games together in the past, were in separate suites for the Chiefs’ home game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 5, leading to speculation of a rift between the two friends.

However, such rumors were quashed when Swift and Brittany met again three days later at the US Open in New York City, in the men’s singles final.

Swift attended the tennis tournament with Kelce after attending a wedding together on September 7. During the Open, the couple spoke with the Mahomeses and at one point Swift and Brittany hugged.

Swift previously supported Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential bid and was expected to endorse Harris before Election Day.

Following news of Swift’s endorsement of the Harris-Walz 2024 campaign, Walz told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, “I’m incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift, first and foremost. I say that as a cat owner — a fellow cat owner.”

“That was eloquent and it was clear,” Walz added. “And that is the kind of courage that we need in America, to stand up.”

“We’ve seen it with those Republicans who were at the DNC, we’ve seen it with women who want to keep their own private lives private, but are forced to go there because they almost died because they couldn’t get an abortion during a pregnancy,” he continued. “And now you have someone like Taylor Swift coming forward and making that very clear.
