Trump and Harris shake hands during rare joint appearance at 9/11 Memorial

President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump made a rare joint appearance for the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The group visited the 9/11 Memorial in New York City on Wednesday, September 11, where two hijacked planes took down the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers. They were also joined at the memorial ceremony by Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, and loved ones and politicians.

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who took office in the months after the devastation, stood between the Democratic and Republican leaders.

Trump, 78, and Harris, 59, greeted each other at the memorial and shook hands for the second time in 12 hours. The political opponents only met in person on Tuesday night during their tense first presidential debate in Philadelphia.

Biden, Harris and Trump have planned more stops on Wednesday, at other locations where hijacked planes crashed in 2001, killing nearly 3,000 people.
