National Weather Service, FAA respond after weather balloon spotted in Las Vegas

What appeared to be a weather balloon caused quite a stir on social media on Monday.

Social media users pointed out a mysterious balloon spotted near Las Vegas and Henderson early Monday morning.

The National Weather Service later confirmed that they had released a weather balloon around 4 a.m., which landed somewhere near Henderson.

Officials later informed users that the video they originally commented on was not of their weather balloon.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) later responded to the reports about the balloon with the following statement:

The FAA is aware of a balloon traveling through multiple states, including Nevada, and the operators are working with the FAA. The balloon is expected to be in operation for the next 30-60 days.
