Trump claims he wasn’t a fan of Taylor Swift, while trying to dismiss her endorsement of Harris as nonsense

Donald Trump has warned Taylor Swift she will “likely pay a price” for her support for Kamala Harris, as he brushed aside the snub after Tuesday night’s debate.

Trump has called in Fox & Friends and dismissed the megastar’s support for his opponent, declaring he was “not a fan” of the singer.

“I was not a fan of Taylor Swift,” he said. “It was just a matter of time. There was no way she could support Biden… But she’s a very liberal person. She always seems to support a Democrat, and she’s probably going to pay a price for that in the marketplace.”

Trump said he preferred Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “I like Brittany, I think Brittany is great,” he said. “Brittany got a lot of news last week, she’s a big MAGA fan, I like her way better than Taylor Swift.”

When initially asked about his reaction to the news after the debate, Trump told CNN, “I have no idea.”

Swift, who has considerable influence among younger voters, broke her silence shortly after the heated debate and officially endorsed Harris for president.

In a lengthy post on Instagram after watching the debate, she said Harris “fights for the rights and causes I believe in.”

“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a good time to do your research on the issues at hand and the positions these candidates are taking on the issues that matter most to you,” she wrote. “As a voter, I will make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.

“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election. I am voting for @kamalaharris because she is fighting for the rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend.”

Trump previously shared several deepfake images of the Cruel Summer singer, including a propaganda poster of Swift dressed as Uncle Sam, pointing at the viewer with the text written over it: “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump.”

She called him out on this in her statement of support for Harris. “It was recently brought to my attention that AI of ‘me’ that falsely endorsed Donald Trump’s presidential campaign was posted on his site,” Swift wrote. “It really brought to mind my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading disinformation.”

Tim Walz was told that Swift had supported him and Harris on live radio. In an interview on MSNBC, he held his hand over his heart as host Rachel Maddow read the star’s statement to him.

In her statement of support, Swift directly praised Walz for “standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s right to their own bodies for decades.”

“Wow,” he muttered. “I’m incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift, first of all. I say that as a cat owner, as a fellow cat owner,” Walz said. “That was eloquent and it was clear, and that’s the kind of courage that we need in America to stand up.”

The Democratic vice presidential nominee added: “We’ve seen it with those Republicans who were at the DNC. We’ve seen it with women who want to keep their own private lives private but are forced to go there because they almost died because they couldn’t get an abortion during a pregnancy, and now you have someone like Taylor Swift making that very clear.”

And in what appeared to be a nod to Swift, Harris’ X account shared a photo of Harris-Walz friendship bracelets in the style of the ones her fans trade at her concerts.

Meanwhile, Swifties For Kamala, who describe themselves as a coalition of Swift fans working together to get progressive candidates elected in US elections, said they were “excited” by the news.

“We knew she would speak when the time was right and we are so excited to continue the fight,” added Irene Kim, co-founder of Swifties For Kamala.

The group says it has raised more than $158,000 for Harris’ campaign and mobilized more than 90,000 people to take action by checking their voter registrations.
