34-year-old man arrested on suspicion of arson in San Bernardino County fire

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the Line fire, which has burned tens of thousands of acres in San Bernardino County.

Authorities arrested Norco resident Justin Wayne Halstenberg on Tuesday for allegedly setting a fire Thursday in the area of ​​Baseline Road and Alpine Street in Highland, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.

Halstenberg is being held on $80,000 bail.

The Line fire started at 6:33 p.m. Thursday, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. It has since burned more than 30,000 acres, with 14% containment as of Tuesday evening. Officials said 65,600 structures were threatened by the fire.

According to authorities, three firefighters were injured in the first few days of the fire.

Two other large fires are burning in Southern California, one in Orange County and the other near the mountain communities of Mount Baldy Village and Wrightwood.
