Every game enhanced for PS5 Pro

After weeks of speculation and leaks, Sony has officially revealed the PS5 Pro during a nine-minute presentation that discussed some of the improvements the console will feature. Featuring better GPU performance, advanced ray tracing, and AI-powered upscaling, the PS5 Pro aims to eliminate the choices many of us currently have to make between performance and fidelity modes. In short, it aims to let us run both modes simultaneously, and as part of the reveal we saw glimpses of games that will be enhanced for PlayStation 5 Pro, offering higher-resolution visuals that run at a smoother 60 frames per second.

While specific improvements have largely been limited to first-party Sony games, we did get a broader look at which games will take advantage of the hardware when it launches. Here’s every game we know of so far that will be improved for PS5 Pro.

Alan Awake 2

Thanks to the power of Remedy’s cutting-edge Northlight engine, Alan Wake 2 was already one of the best-looking games on the PS5 platform. The PS5 Pro will hopefully take it to new heights, especially when it comes to the atmospheric lighting effects in the New York City-esque Dark Place.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Ubisoft has purposefully upgraded the Anvil engine for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the upcoming feudal Japanese historical adventure. The extra power of the PS5 Pro will hopefully allow that engine to render a sprawling open world at 4K resolution and high framerates, without sacrificing any of the gorgeous extras like cherry blossoms and tree pollen. Running at a stable 60 fps should also keep combat feeling as sharp as Yasuke and Naoe’s blades.

Demon Souls

Despite being a launch title released in 2020, Demon’s Souls remains one of the most visually appealing games on the PS5. The standard version has a Cinematic mode, which has all the bells and whistles enabled and runs at 4K resolution with a maximum of 30 fps, and a Performance mode that drops the resolution to 1440p to hit 60 fps. The visual difference between the two is only slight, which is why most people will opt to play in Performance mode, as timing is such an essential part of Souls combat. Being able to unleash the full power of Cinematic mode at 60 fps will be a treat if that’s what the PS5 Pro delivers.

Dragon Dogma 2

When Dragon’s Dogma 2 launched earlier this year, it drew scrutiny for its choppy performance on console, with 60fps proving near impossible to achieve. Sony hasn’t yet detailed what we can expect from the confirmed PS5 Pro improvement, but hopefully it’ll bump the framerate up to 60fps so we can enjoy those giant monster battles as they were meant to be enjoyed. With any luck, we’ll also be able to do so in 4K, so we can see all the detail rendered by the impressive RE Engine.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Another 2024 game that suffered from performance issues, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is often a graphical star, but it’s locked in a 30fps prison cell. Switching from fidelity to performance mode makes combat feel buttery smooth, but at the cost of some disconcertingly blurry graphics. FF7 Rebirth is a game that deserves to be played in the best possible conditions, so it’s best to show off its gorgeous world design and lovingly rendered characters, and hopefully the PS5 Pro upgrade will unlock its full potential.

Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 already looks pretty good on PS5, running at a buttery-smooth 60fps, but on PS5 Pro the focus seems to be heavily on ray tracing, particularly between the cars as they race around the tracks. This was demonstrated when a bright yellow Corvette zoomed past a blue Porsche Cayman GT4, and you could clearly see the Corvette’s reflections in those blue body panels as it drove by. It looks nice, but is $700 nice? That’s for you to decide.

Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwart’s Legacy was another game that really showed off the PS5 Pro’s improved ray-tracing capabilities, and as we walked through the doors of the Great Hall at Hogwarts I was almost blinded by how shiny the stone floor was. more reflections, we are promised a greater variety of reflective surfaces, a point made when a hippogriff flew gracefully across the Great Lake, the distant hills reflected in the icy water. Finally, ray tracing will also benefit shadows, promising greater realism.

Horizon Forbidden West

Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West was another first-party game shown off during the reveal, and one that promises to bridge the gap between Performance Mode and Fidelity Mode by taking full advantage of the enhanced GPU thanks to the PS5 Pro’s improvements. During the presentation, we saw Horizon Forbidden West running on PS5 Pro boasting an improved level of graphical fidelity, from better lighting to more detailed skin and hair textures during the cinematics.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 sets the benchmark that all PS5 games should strive to meet, with high-end graphics and insane performance – but not necessarily at the same time. PlayStation architect Mark Cerny promises that with PS5 Pro, a game like Spider-Man 2 will no longer have to choose between performance or graphics, and that Spider-Man 2 will achieve high fidelity graphics at the level of the performance mode framerate, so you get all that gorgeous detail at a roaring 60 fps.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Breakup

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was an early PS5 technical marvel, with an emphasis on the sort of whiz-bang effects that were only achieved thanks to the faster SSD loaded into the base console. With the promised improvements of the PS5 Pro, we’ve seen that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart can now maintain those high levels of performance and gameplay, while graphics that took a hit to reach peak performance are improved. We even see the PS5 Pro being able to hit new levels of visual detail while maintaining the same frame rates during Performance Mode.

The Crew Motorfest

Ubisoft’s online racing game The Crew Motorfest was briefly shown off during a montage of games that will be improved with the PS5 Pro. While we don’t have any details on what those specific improvements are, the brief sizzle did reveal some improved reflections on the surfaces of the cars, potentially suggesting a similar visual improvement to Gran Turismo 7’s graphical upgrade while maintaining 60fps.

The first descendant

Nexon’s free-to-play MMORPG The First Descendant also appeared in the PS5 Pro montage, suggesting that it too will be receiving performance and graphical upgrades with the new console. The clips shown during the sizzle were only of cinematic cutscenes, making it difficult to determine what specific improvements will be added, but the PS5 Pro promises to bridge the gap between Performance and Fidelity Mode, so expect even more graphical detail while maintaining a consistently higher framerate.

The Last of Us Part II remastered

During the presentation, we saw a side-by-side comparison of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered running on PS5 Pro side-by-side with the PS5 version in fidelity mode. The wooded environments that Eliie explores look as lush and detailed as ever on the Pro, but the key difference is the framerate: it runs at 60fps, which looks much smoother compared to the standard PS5 version, which runs at a choppy 30fps. When the presentation compared the original’s performance mode, the difference in detail was clear: it’s noticeably sharper on PS5 Pro. It’s further proof that the Pro offers both high-resolution visuals and a smooth framerate, if you’re willing to drop the $700 mark.

Those are all the games we know of so far that are being enhanced for PS5 Pro. We’ll be sure to add more as they’re announced. In the meantime, check out how the internet reacted to the PS5 Pro’s $700 price tag, and watch the console’s reveal trailer.
