Fire at Trabuco Canyon airport leads to more road closures – NBC Los Angeles

While the airport fire grew so large on Monday that people in the Trabuco Canyon area had to be evacuated, more than 1,000 firefighters were expected to work through the night to extinguish the wildfire.

The airport fire, reported around 1:15 p.m. on Trabuco Creek Road near a remote-controlled aircraft airfield, grew from a scorching 17 acres to more than 5,000 acres within hours.

Officials said the latest fire moved to the site of the Sacred Fire, which burned more than 23,000 hectares in 2018.

Evacuation orders, warnings

In addition to the mandatory evacuation order for residents of Robinson Ranch and Trabuco Highlands, officials said those who received an evacuation warning should be prepared to leave their homes.

“Don’t wait for a mandatory evacuation order. If you’re under an involuntary evacuation order, know that they don’t come about lightly. That’s the time to get started,” Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner said during a news conference with fire officials.

The map of the neighborhoods for which evacuation orders and warnings apply can be found here.
