Los Angeles Rams vs. Detroit Lions, Sunday, September 8

After both teams scored field goals, Gibbs gave the Lions their first lead of the game with a 1-yard touchdown run with one minute, 57 seconds left in the first half.

The Lions took a 10-3 lead into halftime thanks to an interception by Kerby Joseph in the Lions’ end zone with just 15 seconds left. Stafford had led the Rams to the red zone looking for some points in the final half.

The Lions extended their lead to 17-3 early in the third quarter with a 52-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Jameson Williams down the left sideline. Williams fought through an illegal contact penalty on cornerback Tre’Davious White and still made the touchdown catch.

The Rams fought back, taking their next possession 70 yards in 11 plays on a nearly seven-minute drive, capped by a Kyren Williams 2-yard touchdown run to make it 17-10 late in the third quarter. The Rams converted a 4th & 3 at the Lions’ 29-yard line on the drive.

The Rams made it 17-13 early in the fourth quarter with a 26-yard field goal, then took the lead on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Stafford to wide receiver Cooper Kupp with four and a half minutes left in the game.

Bates equalized in the closing stages and Montgomery won the game in overtime for the Lions.
