There are only three days of competition left before the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, but things are getting better.

Para-canoeing finally gets underway at the Vaires-sur-Marne Stadium and the first medals are being awarded in sitting volleyball. Will Morteza Mehrzadselakjani and the Iranian team win their third consecutive gold medal in the men’s tournament? We can’t wait to find out.

The line-ups for the wheelchair basketball medal matches will be determined on Day 9, with the medal matches scheduled for September 7 and 8. At the Grand Palais, Thai wheelchair fencer Saysunee Jana will be aiming for her third gold of the Paris 2024 Games.

Parakano starts at the Vaires-sur-Marne stadium

The final sport to feature in Paris 2024, the Para-canoeing event, will kick off on day nine at the Vaires-sur-Marne stadium. The first day will feature heats for all 10 events, followed by two days of medals.

In total, around 100 athletes will demonstrate their strength, technique and determination as they race to the finish line at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

“Our sport is super exciting but it goes by so quickly. If we can create a bit more buzz around it that would be really good,” said Australian Curtis McGrath, who is looking to defend his two Tokyo 2020 titles.

First gold medals in sitting volleyball in Paris 2024

The men’s sitting volleyball final is a must-see on day nine, with powerhouse Iran taking on Bosnia and Herzegovina in a bid to win their third straight gold medal. Morteza Mehrzadselakjani, the tallest man in the tournament, will be hoping to lead his team to another victory.

“We can’t predict the final outcome of the competition. But we have to do our best because the next match is against Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Iranian player Sadegh Bigdeli.

“We will see what happens, but we will try to become champions.”

Germany and Egypt will play the bronze medal match earlier in the day.

Wheelchair basketball finalists announced

If you’re a wheelchair basketball fan, day nine is a big day as it determines which teams will play in the women’s final. The men’s semi-finals took place on day eight, with Great Britain and the US advancing to the final.

The women’s semi-finals will be held in the afternoon of day nine. China will take on the USA in the first match, followed by a face-off between Canada and the reigning Paralympic champions the Netherlands.

Saysunee Jana aims for triple gold in Paris 2024

In wheelchair fencing, Thailand’s Saysunee Jana is hoping to win her third gold medal at Paris 2024, her sixth Paralympic Games. She will compete in her final individual event, the women’s epee category B, after taking bronze in the event at Tokyo 2020.

“I have gained a lot of experience over the last few years,” she said after winning her second gold medal on September 4.

“Last time, in Tokyo 2020, I missed out and only got bronze (on the epee), but this year it’s my year to get gold.”

In Paris she was in first place in category B for women’s foil and category B for women’s sabre.

Will Diede de Groot only defend the women’s title?

Diede de Groot, who has only lost two singles matches since Tokyo 2020, will be looking to defend her women’s singles gold at the iconic Roland-Garros stadium. She will face second-seeded Yui Kamiji from Japan, to whom she lost in July this year.

Dutchmen De Groot and Aniek van Koot won silver behind Kamiji and Manami Tanaka in the women’s doubles on September 5. Will De Groot get redemption in the singles?
