Marathon concludes Para-athletics on final day of Paralympic Games

Today is the final day of the Paris 2024 Paralympics! The final medals will be awarded in four sports – Para-athletics, Para-powerlifting, Para-canoeing and wheelchair basketball – before a magnificent closing ceremony brings the curtain down on the Games.

Even though it’s the last day, it’s not over yet. Here’s everything you need to know about day 11.

Marathon concludes Para-athletics

Para-athletics, the largest sport on the Paris 2024 programme in terms of number of participants and events, will conclude on day 11 with four marathons.

Swiss wheelchair racing stars Catherine Debrunner and Marcel Hug aim to dominate in the women’s and men’s marathon T54 respectively, while Japan’s Misato Michishita aims to defend her Tokyo 2020 gold medal in the women’s marathon T12.

After starting in Seine-Saint-Denis, the athletes will pass through the Place de la Concorde, where the opening ceremony took place, before competing on the Champs-Elysees and around the Arc de Triomphe. The finish line is in front of the Esplanades de Invalides.

The Stade de France, which hosted athletics events during the Games, will be the setting for the closing ceremony, which is set to be a “gigantic party” featuring artists from France’s electronic music scene.

The ceremony celebrates the achievements of some 4,400 athletes from around the world who competed in 22 sports. The Paralympic flag is presented to Los Angeles, the host city of the 2028 Games.

The closing ceremony is a must-see for everyone, especially those who enjoyed the magnificent opening ceremony on August 28.
