Despite dominance, Nebraska football could actually be better in the second half

Call me a glutton. I think Nebraska football could have made this game a lot worse than it is. It could have been a lot scarier than it is, if a few plays hadn’t gone the Huskers’ way in the first half.

Yes, the score is 28-0 and it’s fun to see Colorado look as bad as they are. But there were times when NU didn’t look like they were executing everything so cleanly, especially on offense. Against a Buffs defense that was constantly on their heels.

Keep in mind that without Tommi Hill’s pick six and Rahmir Johnson’s 18-yard touchdown reception, which absolutely should have been an interception by Colorado, the score would have been just 14-0.

Deion Sanders ran into the locker room and said that he thought his defense was actually playing pretty well. At first glance, the comment was met with some scorn, but he’s not wrong.

Yeah, it feels weird to say that an offense with 200 yards of offense and a quarterback who has thrown only three incompletions should do a little bit better. But it can.

First of all, they need to run more. They really need to commit to the run game. There have been a few too many throws downfield that felt like throwing away a down. Let Dante Dowdell cook. Let’s see if we can get a 100-yard rusher against this Colorado front.

The added bonus here is that it would run the clock more than it did. Keep in mind that Nebraska and Colorado each had two possessions at the end of the first half, starting at about the 2:30 mark. Those possessions are just too fast.

Colorado has a good offense. The Cornhuskers have managed to get it off the court, but they still have Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. The last thing we want to see is a game that is within one score in the fourth quarter.

Let this game remain a laugh. Let it be cathartic. And let Nebraska football make its case for a Top 25 spot on Monday.
