Buffs hope safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig is available for Saturday’s game – BuffZone

Colorado could potentially get safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig back in time for Saturday’s visit to Nebraska.

Silmon-Craig played just 10 snaps in CU’s season-opener, a 31-26 win over North Dakota State, last Thursday due to an undisclosed injury. He could return to action Saturday in Lincoln (5:30 p.m., NBC).

“Yeah, he’s doing great,” head coach Deion Sanders said Tuesday. “He’s doing great. I think he’ll be cleared (Wednesday). We’re praying for that because he’s one of the true leaders on the defense, leaders on the team, and his passion is unmatched.

“The way he plays the game is second to none, and when he goes down, it’s definitely a deficiency in our secondary and on defense because he’s the communicator; him and Shilo (Sanders), but he’s an even better communicator than Shilo.”

Silmon-Craig made his debut for CU in last year’s 36-14 win over Nebraska, making an interception that helped the Buffs secure the win.

Preparing the crowd

Memorial Stadium has a capacity of more than 85,000, though the stands often hold more than 90,000. There were 86,072 fans in attendance for Nebraska’s 40-7 win over UTEP on Saturday.

The Huskers have also sold out 397 consecutive games, since 1962. So the Buffs are preparing for a rowdy environment. Coach Prime didn’t say how they were going to do that, but said, “Yeah, yeah, we started doing it today. Absolutely (preparing).”

CU guard Justin Mayers said the Buffs know where they stand and are ready for it.

“This is what everybody wants to play college football for, to play on the biggest games, the biggest stages, the most fans, the most people watching on TV,” he said. “It’s just the platform that we all want to be on. I think the fans, you can use it to your advantage. You can silence the crowd when you get on their back and score. That’s what we want to do.

“But the fans, we’re not worried about that. I think it just gives us a little bit more of a boost. I think it will definitely be good.”

Remarkable

CU had all healthy players in uniform for the NDSU game because Coach Prime said, “I just wanted to reward them” for their hard work preparing for the opener. Whether that many players will be allowed to wear uniforms for home games remains to be seen, he said. “That sideline is really small and it gets crowded,” he said. … Receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. finished with 198 receiving yards against NDSU, and Coach Prime said, “I’m mad I didn’t know because we would have given him 200.”
