Colorado started slowly in Saturday’s match against NebraskaDown two touchdowns after a quarter of the game, the Buffaloes could now be without one of their best defenders. Defensive back Shilo Sanders is back in the locker room.

While the exact injury is not yet known, Sanders was shown on the NBC broadcast running without a helmet. Sideline reporter Kathryn Tappen says he will likely return to the game.

“There’s not much new to report,” Tappen said. “Team personnel were holding his helmet as he walked to the locker room. At this point, I’m hearing he’s likely to return to this game.”

Colorado’s defense has been on the field quite a bit, but Sanders’ injury occurred fairly early, with Tappen giving her report in the opening moments of the second quarter.

Sanders was one of the most prominent recruits who followed him Deion Sandershis father, to Colorado. He starred in the Jackson State secondary and has been a constant presence in Boulder since making the move to the FBS level.

Nebraska feels good about their passing attack, especially with quarterback Dylan Raiola running the show. However, there hasn’t been much downfield so far. A lot of the passing has been near or around the line of scrimmage as the Huskers look to create space.

At some point, a deep ball play will be called by Nebraska offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield. Colorado does have confidence in its secondary, primarily cornerback Travis HunterBut when Sanders isn’t on the field, the Buffaloes feel like they’re missing one of their best players.

Given that his status is currently “probable,” there has to be some hope that Sanders returns to the field. Otherwise, it’s a big loss in a game that will require a few stops in the closing stages.
