Jordan Love Injury: Packers Star’s Leg Injury Could Be Costly

The Green Bay Packers’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles may not have only had implications for the standings.

With six seconds left in Friday’s game, Love, trying to extend the game and avoid being sacked, got wedged between two Eagles players and went down awkwardly with a leg injury. He had to be helped off the field after the play and was visited as he sat by Eagles QB Jalen Hurts for a postgame handshake. Love needed help getting to the locker room after the game, a 34-29 Eagles victory at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil.

During the play, Love tripped over Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter and was simultaneously tackled by linebacker Josh Sweat. His leg twisted awkwardly and he collapsed to the ground, requiring assistance.

Love was replaced on the final two plays by quarterback Malik Willis, who threw an incomplete pass and was subsequently sacked.

Jeff Mueller, a physical therapist, tweeted after the play that Love may be dealing with a left diaphragm strain and/or a high ankle sprain.

“He was limping along the sideline, but there were no coaches on the bench working with him,” Mueller wrote.

Dr. Eric Friedman, who specializes in sports medicine and emergency medicine, was also concerned about a serious ankle sprain — and perhaps worse.

“I’m going to have x-rays taken to rule out a fibular fracture,” he wrote.

Physical therapy specialist Dr. Evan Jeffries agreed, writing that Love may have a severe ankle sprain and that the team should rule out a lower leg fracture.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, it can take six to eight weeks for a sprained ankle to heal. However, athletes may take even longer to get back to normal.
