Ticket prices for the US Open men’s semi-finals are skyrocketing

The highly anticipated, all-American match between Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe, the first US Open semifinal between two American men in nearly 20 years, will cost you a lot of Honey Deuces to attend.

Prices have risen 60% since Tuesday, when the tie-up was finalized. The cheapest price to attend Friday night’s game at Arthur Ashe Stadium is $333 for a single ticket, according to TickPick, an online marketplace for secondary tickets.

And those are tickets in the nosebleed sections. Prices climb as high as $56,000 for a seat court team. On average, fans will pay about $500 for the 7 p.m. ET match, which is the fifth-most expensive US Open men’s semifinal ever, a TickPick spokesperson told CNN.

It is striking that the demand for the lower-ranked American players is much greater than for the match with the number one male tennis player, Italian Jannik Sinner, who plays on Friday afternoon.

Prices for the Fritz vs. Tiafoe match are 231% more expensive for the cheapest ticket compared to the cheap seats for Sinner’s 3pm ET match against Britain’s Jack Draper. The cheapest prices for that match hover around $80, with courtside prices hovering around $1,500.

The high ticket prices come as some fans criticize the long lines and rising costs to watch the annual tennis tournament in New York. Combined with the sport’s growing popularity, it’s perhaps no surprise that total ticket sales on StubHub have already outpaced last year’s event by 32 percent, the company told CNN.

Regardless of the prize, the match between Fritz and Foe is a monumental piece of tennis history, as it guarantees an American man a place in Sunday’s final, a milestone not achieved since 2006.
