Motorists in Las Vegas should prepare for two full closures of Interstate 15 near the resort starting this weekend.

The first closure is scheduled between 9 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday, on I-15 northbound between Russell Road and Tropicana Avenue, the Nevada Department of Transportation announced Wednesday. Then, I-15 southbound between Flamingo and Russell Roads will be closed between 9 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The nighttime closures are necessary so crews can pour concrete to form the bridge decks, the transportation department said.

Future directional closures are still needed to complete work related to the previous Pave-A-Thon operation, which included the same stretch of I-15 that was affected by this weekend’s work. That work was not completed, despite two full weekend directional closures of I-15, due to a shortage of the rubbery overlay material used in paving work.

The stretch of freeway includes the site of the $305 million I-15-Tropicana project. The multi-year project began in 2022 and is expected to be completed next year. The project includes resurfacing the Tropicana-I-15 interchange, raising and widening the Tropicana Bridge over I-15, reconfiguring Dean Martin Drive at Tropicana and adding a half interchange at Harmon Avenue and the interstate.
