Man fatally injured in Elkhorn North water well identified

A maintenance worker was fatally injured Wednesday while working at Elkhorn North High School, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Omaha Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department responded to the school at 10:22 a.m., where they found 50-year-old Kevin Garrison working underground near the school’s football field. Garrison was an employee of Elkhorn Public Schools.

In a statement sent to the students’ families, the Elkhorn School District said the man was working in a geothermal well. Students were dismissed for the day at 11:45 a.m.

“Following a medical emergency involving a maintenance worker at a geothermal well at ENHS, power has been shut off to the school and students are required to adhere to the standard response protocol of ‘on guard,’” the statement said.
