Suspected mass murderer Colt Gray left class and asked to go back into locked room before opening fire in Georgia high school: student

Lyela Sayarath, a sophomore at Apalachee High School, told CNN she was sitting next to alleged shooter Colt Gray, 14, just before Wednesday’s massacre.

The 16-year-old student said Gray left the classroom at the start of Algebra I class that morning.

Sayarath said the mass murder suspect knocked to get back in, as the door automatically locked behind him.

A girl tried to open the door for him, but quickly jumped back after seeing that Gray was armed.

“I think he saw that we weren’t going to let him in,” Lyela told CNN. “And I think the classroom next to me, their door, was open, so I think he just started shooting into the classroom.”

The junior said students in her algebra class hid behind their desks when they heard gunshots, a terrifying experience she described as “just one after another.”

“When we heard it, most people dropped to the ground and crawled on top of each other,” she said.
