Alfie Hewett, Tokito Oda, Martin De La Puente and Gustavo Fernandez… The four best players in the world started their Paralympic wheelchair tennis tournament on Sunday at the Roland-Garros stadium.

The world’s top four wheelchair tennis players kicked off their Paralympic tournament on the clay courts of the Roland-Garros stadium on Sunday. Unsurprisingly, Alfie Hewett (Great Britain), Todiko Oda (Japan), Martin De La Puente (Spain) and Gustavo Fernandez (Argentina) all qualified for the last 16, in matches with different profiles.

Hewett, the number 1

The world number 1 made a strong start to his first ever Paralympic tournament! Great Britain’s Alfie Hewett won his match and will play in the last 16. ‘I couldn’t wait for the games to start because while the others were playing I was just practising,’ admits the Norwich native.

Hewett defeated Segei Lysov Israel in straight sets, giving up only one game. He is a player I did not know,” admits the 26-year-old Para athlete. He was a good opponent to get me in the swing.
