Mike Norvell reveals the message behind the passionate half-time speech on the pitch

CFB Week 1 UPSET ALERT? | Colorado vs North Dakota State, WVU vs Penn State, Florida State vs BC

State of Florida chased Boston College 14-6 at halftime in the Seminoles’ season opener on Monday.

The Eagles jumped out to a 14-0 lead thanks to a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter. Offensively, two promising drives for FSU resulted in field goals after they found their way into the BC redzone.

Head coach Mike Norvell didn’t wait until he was in a private setting to delve into his team. He gathered his Seminoles on the court before entering the locker room for what appeared to be an intense speech amid their offensive struggles. Before leading his team into the tunnel, he explained the message he was sending his team.

“It was about as bad a start as we could possibly have. And I mean, to be down one possession, we obviously have to play a lot cleaner football. We made too many mistakes. We have to do a lot better on third downs, both offensively and defensively. Our defense responded to that in the second quarter and we have 30 minutes to play possessions.”

Just before halftime, Florida State managed to get the ball inside the Boston College 10-yard line. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei failed to convert pass plays into the end zone on all downs with a goal to go.

“We’ve got to be able to finish in the end zone,” Norvell continued. “We’ve made some mistakes. We’ve had some missed connections. We’ve got to make sure we just calm down, go out there, throw and catch, we’ve got to be able to establish the run game. We’ve had limited possessions and a lot of that is there. We’ve got to be able to execute on third downs as well.”

Uiagalelei entered the second half completing 8 of 21 passes for 108 yards, while limiting Florida State to 10 rushing yards through the first two quarters of action. Fans could be heard calling for a backup quarterback during the first half Brock Glenn to enter the game.

The Seminoles will look to bounce back in the second half and avoid falling behind 0-2 for the first time since 2021. Fans can watch the ‘Noles’ comeback attempt live on ESPN and the ESPN app.
