Hollie Strano Fired From WKYC 9 Months After Her Thanksgiving Arrest OVI

A local TV meteorologist who was arrested and charged with OVI last Thanksgiving is no longer employed by WKYC Studios.

Hollie Strano, who worked at WKYC Channel 3 News for more than 20 years, posted a message Monday morning about her firing.

“I am sad to report that after 22 years of dedicated work, WKYC and Tegna have decided to terminate my employment after I publicly shared my recovery journey,” Strano said. “I believe the actions of WKYC and Tegna highlight the stigma surrounding addiction that so many in our community experience every day.”

Strano pleaded guilty to one count of OVI, a first-degree felony, after she crashed her car on Akron-Peninsula Road. A Cuyahoga Falls police officer reported she was driving 70 mph in a 35 mph zone. Strano had a blood alcohol content of 0.244%, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%. She has since posted about her efforts to recover.

A representative for Tegna, which operates WKYC and is headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, could not be reached for comment.

In addition to her work as a meteorologist, she was also the host of WKYC’s morning show “GO” and the host of “It’s About You.”
