ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1170 Hints, Clues and Answers for Sunday September 1st

I picked the worst day to end my trip. I should have picked tomorrow, not Labor Day! I should have stayed in NYC through Wednesday. That’s a good day to travel. I know I’m going to have a hard time going on vacation. Oh well!

It was a great trip. I got to see a lot of Broadway shows, which has been on my bucket list for decades. Better late than never, as they say. Anyway, let’s solve this Wordle, shall we?

How to solve today’s Wordle

The hint: Companion in the desert.

The clue: This Wordle has more consonants than vowels.

Can you solve today’s sentence?

The answer:

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot here.

Not bad, if I may say so myself. CRONE was a surprisingly good opener, leaving me with one yellow and one green square and, as I would later learn, only 26 possible solutions left. I didn’t cheat, but it was my second guess and probably the weakest link in my overall approach today. It just goes to show that cheating never pays off, even if you only use the word cheat. With one yellow square and only 8 words left, I thought of the word CAMEL when I tried to rearrange my vowels. I was a bit surprised when it turned out to be Wordle!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for drawing the Bot. After a few zero days, I’ll take that point!

How to Play Wordle Competitively

  • Guess a number 1 and you get 3 points; guess a number 2 and you get 2 points; guess a number 3 and you get 1 point; guess a number 4 and you get 0 points; guess a number 5 and you get -1 point; guess a number 6 and you get -2 points and missing the Wordle gives -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you draw you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily score or just play every day for a new score.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points, positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running count or just play day-to-day. Have fun!

The Etymology of Today’s Wordle

The word “camel” comes from the Latin “camelus”, which is borrowed from the Greek “kámēlos”, ultimately derived from Semitic languages such as Hebrew (“gamal”) and Arabic (“jamal”), and means burden-bearing animal.
