LA Rams expected to hire former Nebraska head coach Scott Frost as senior analyst

The Los Angeles Rams are expected to sign former Nebraska On3’s Pete Nakos has confirmed that head coach Scott Frost is a senior football analyst.

Frost was head coach at Nebraska from 2018 to 2022. Before that, he held the same position at UCF where he helped the Knights finish 13-0 in 2017.

Earlier this year, Frost spoke to CBS to discuss his future, saying he was “dying” to get back into the coaching business. He didn’t want to go into broadcasting like many of his colleagues after retirement or between coaching jobs and become a talking point or “critic from the sidelines,” as he put it. That seems to be true since he became a coach.

After being fired by Nebraska, it was the first time Frost had been out of the coaching industry since 2006, when he was Kansas State as a graduate assistant. From there he had stops in Northern Iowa and Oregon before taking his first head coaching job at UCF in 2016. He was there for two seasons – in the second season he led them to an undefeated season.

He was hired by Nebraska, his alma mater with which he won two national championships during his tenure, in 2018, but failed to live up to expectations. During his tenure, he compiled a 16-31 record, including a 10-26 mark against Big Ten opponents, and was 0-14 against ranked opponents while coaching the Cornhuskers.

Frost’s future was in doubt in the offseason following a 3-9 season in 2021. He signed a revised contract, which resulted in a lower buyout and a salary reduction. He also revamped the coaching staff, but Nebraka ultimately didn’t keep him, naming Mickey Joseph interim head coach before hiring Matt Rhule for the 2023 season.

As for his new position in Los Angeles, it is unclear at the time of this report what Frost’s specific role within the Rams organization will be. Regardless, Frost is now back in the coaching industry and in the NFL for the first time.

The Rams will kick off their 2024-25 regular season in the first Sunday Night Football game of the season against the Detroit Lions. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET live on NBC.
