Henry Doorly Zoo Welcomes Pygmy Hippo Calf

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha announced via a Facebook post that a pygmy hippo has been born.

Adama, the newest addition to the zoo’s Lied Jungle, was born on June 16 to Chomel, a 24-year-old pygmy hippopotamus.

According to the report, Adama weighs about 50 pounds, and adults can grow to 350 to 600 pounds.

Adama enjoys swimming and exploring her habitat in the Song Jungle, the report said.

Pygmy hippos are listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List. Adama is one of about 100 pygmy hippos from 15 organizations accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums.
