What to Stream This Weekend on Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, Apple TV, and More

It’s a big week for new shows and there are even a few movies that are a must-watch, depending on which of the many streaming services you’re subscribed to, of course. I’m actually in the Big Apple, my second ever trip to New York City and I’m only here for the weekend, so I’ll keep my introduction brief. I won’t be watching much TV or movies this weekend because I need to get out and explore! Any tips? Drop me a line at TwitterInstagram or Facebook. Okay, let’s dive right in!

Every week I scour the internet for the best new stuff coming to Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, and more. I also throw in new VOD options, theatrical releases, and other bonuses including 4K Blu-ray releases, because while this is a streaming guide, we should never limit ourselves. If there’s anything you’re watching that I missed, let me know at TwitterInstagram or Facebook

Check out last weekend’s streaming guide here:

We’re starting this week with all that’s new. Let’s dive right in!

New to stream

The Rings of Power (Prime Video)

Amazon’s Huge, Big-Budget Prequel Lord of the Rings The series is back for a second season, and while it’s generally been pretty well-reviewed – shockingly well, if you ask me – I found the first three episodes to be dull, confusing, and in many ways even less enjoyable than Season 1. Still, if you’re a fan of the series, you’ll have plenty to be excited about with three very long episodes to dive into and weekly releases thereafter. You can read my review of the three-episode premiere here.

Only Murders in the Building (Hulu)

Of course, if you want to see something that’s actually good, with a great script and acting and a fun mystery, you could do a lot worse than season four of Only murders in the building. People say I’m a hater, but man I love this show and the opening scene is so, so good. New episodes come out on Tuesdays. Read my review here.

The Redemption (Netflix)

From esteemed director Lee Daniels comes this very, very creepy looking Netflix original inspired by a true story – or, well, a story that may or may not be true. If you like horror thrillers about possession, this is definitely a must-see. Also, I haven’t seen Glenn Close in anything in a while.

Fall Guy (Peacock)

I still haven’t watched Sinner. I missed it in theaters and it was out on VOD, but I knew if I paid for it, it would be on a streaming service right away. It’s a shame it’s on Peacock and not Netflix or Prime Video, but hey, better that than nowhere. Time to finally watch the Ryan Gosling/Emily Blunt actioner that—despite its attractive stars and good reviews—was a spectacular box office flop.

Alien Romulus Pitch Meeting

I don’t watch much YouTube, but I love Ryan George’s “Pitch Meeting” videos which always do such a phenomenal job of dissecting the reasons why shows and movies don’t work. Not only is he insightful, he’s hilarious. Even movies that I really like, he can make fun of in a way that I can accept. Well, I did not to like Alien: Romulus not at all, and this video nicely sums up why.

Ongoing series

Bad Monkey (Apple TV). I’m a little behind on the mystery comedy starring Vince Vaughn Bad monkey because I’m traveling, but man, this is an amazing show so far! I really need to write a review. Apple continues to put out the best stuff out there. I can’t think of another streamer that has such a great ratio of good stuff to fluff.

Sunny (Apple TV) starring Rashida Jones, is about a woman whose husband and son disappear. She is left with her husband’s robot, Sunny, as she tries to unravel the mystery of her missing family in Kyoto, Japan. I am one episode behind, but I wish I had chosen to recap this weekly because it is so unique and fascinating and well done.

Industry (HBO / Max) has taken over the empty Sunday slot from House of the Dragon on Max and HBO. The show is in its third season and I only heard about it last week, but it sounds like a pretty good drama about ambitious young people in London’s financial world.

The Snake Queen (Starz) Samantha Morton stars as Catherine De Medici in this historical drama of intrigue and politics in 16th century France. One of the highest rated shows in this guide with a 100% critic and 92% audience score.

Pachinko (Apple TV) is a series about multi-generational Korean immigrants trying to survive in a hostile Japanese society. The second season airs weekly on Apple TV, every Friday.
