Unranked Blanche Ely shocks No. 5 Chaminade-Madonna in South Florida thriller

Three-time reigning Florida state champion Chaminade-Madonna may still be recovering from a hard-fought loss to two-time national champion St. John Bosco (Calif.) last week when it took the field Friday night to play Blanche Ely. But no one expected CM to struggle against the unranked Tigers.

But that’s what happened when Blanche Ely took a 21-7 lead in the third quarter against the Lions, ranked No. 5 in the High School Football America 300, powered by NFL Play FootballThe Lions were two scores behind, but they went one better and evened the score at 28-28.

With just seconds left, the Lions had a chance to pull out a come-from-behind win with a 30-yard field goal. However, that was when the Tigers came up with one of their two huge blocks.

The first (below) forced the match into extra time.

Blanche Ely scored first in overtime. Chaminade-Madonna then scored on his first play of overtime. But the Tigers blocked the extra point for the win.

Things aren’t getting any easier for CM, as they play No. 25 American Heritage from Plantation next week.

Blanche Ely, who will play the new HSFA 300 on Sunday, will look to improve her record to 3-0 when she plays Stranahan.
