Shohei Ohtani’s Dog Decoy Throws Perfect First Pitch At Dodgers Game

It turns out Shohei Ohtani’s dog can throw too.

On Wednesday evening, the Dutch Kooikerhondje Decoy performed the ceremonial first pitch at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles to perfection.

Decoy, wearing his own LA Dodgers uniform, waited patiently on the pitcher’s mound until Ohtani crouched down at home plate. Then Decoy grabbed the ball in his mouth and ran with it toward Ohtani, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Decoy then gave his owner a high-five with his paws.

Fans had turned out in droves that night for the sold-out game, eager to get their hands on another Ohtani bobblehead, this time featuring him holding his now-famous dog. The two-time American League MVP also drew a sell-out crowd on his first bobblehead night in May.

The superstar continued his show during the game, hitting his 42nd home run of the season in his first at bat as the Dodgers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6-4.

Ohtani is a multi-talented hitter and pitcher, but he will not bat until after his second elbow surgery this season.

In a post-match interview, he said it took him three weeks to train Decoy for the field.

“I think I was more nervous about the ceremonial pitch than Decoy,” Ohtani said. “But I’m glad everything went well.”
