MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) – Thursday will be warm and pleasant weather, with dew points around 21 degrees Celsius. Later in the afternoon there is a greater chance of heavy showers.

Thursday weather forecast

It’s a hot and sticky day with temperatures in the mid to high 80s and dew points in the 70s, giving it a tropical feel. Thursday will be breezy with southerly winds of 10-20+ mph.

The day starts off quiet in the Twin Cities metro area, with a few storms in the afternoon through late afternoon. Once the system is pushed out, the overnight hours will be clear and calm with temperatures in the mid 60s.

Storms on Thursday

Isolated storms are expected in south-central Minnesota on Thursday morning, while several more severe storms are expected in northwestern Minnesota.

On Thursday, the Twin Cities metropolitan area and much of central and southern Minnesota are under a Level 2 Slight Risk for severe weather. The western edge of the state and parts of northern Minnesota are under a marginal risk.

The storms will make landfall in central and western Minnesota around 3 p.m. and move east, reaching the Twin Cities metro sometime between 4 and 8 p.m. Thursday. The storms are moving quickly and will move out of the area around 10 p.m. These storms have the potential for winds in excess of 60 mph (96 km/h), torrential downpours, quarter-sized hail and an isolated tornado.

Labor Day weekend

Thursday’s storms set the stage for a beautiful Friday and holiday weekend. Temperatures and dew points will drop on Friday, with highs in the mid 70s. Clouds will also push out for plenty of sunshine.

Saturday will be a bit warmer with temperatures around 27 degrees Celsius. It is a typical summer day with lots of sun.

As we head into Sunday and Labor Day, temperatures will start to feel more like fall with highs in the mid to low 70s. However, temperatures will climb back into the high 70s and low 80s by midweek.
