“I will always love you the best I can,” Carey wrote.

Carey and her mother sang a memorable duet, “O Come All Ye Faithful/Hallelujah Chorus,” on the star’s album Merry Christmas II You from 2010.

She was raised primarily by her mother after her parents divorced when she was 3, PEOPLE reports. Mariah was the youngest of Patricia’s three children and, according to her memoir, the singer felt it was “emotionally and physically safer” for her not to have contact with her sister or brother, Morgan. Her father, Alfred, died in 2002.

According to her website, the five-time Grammy winner is currently between her Las Vegas residency, which ended on August 10, and her annual Christmas concerts. She begins those, where she sings holiday songs like her popular “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” on November 6. Her schedule is expected to wrap up on December 17 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
