Billy Baldwin says he is ending his decades-long friendship with Robert Kennedy Jr. over the former White House candidate’s support for former President Trump, criticizing him for “selling his political soul.”

“I have known Bobby Kennedy Jr. for decades. We were friends. I loved his politics. His speeches inspired me,” Baldwin wrote on the social platform X on Sunday.

Baldwin described Kennedy as someone who “had presidential ambitions his entire adult life” and said the environmental lawyer entered the 2024 White House race because he saw “the window of opportunity for his presidential ambitions was closing.”

Kennedy, 70, announced last week that he would suspend his independent presidential campaign in swing states and endorse Trump. Kennedy said he would keep his name on the ballot in most solidly red or blue states.

Baldwin, who starred in the 1991 film “Backdraft” and is the younger brother of actor Alec Baldwin, lashed out at the son of former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy for supporting Trump.

“His abandonment of his bid for the presidency and endorsement of Trump is not only a betrayal of the values ​​and traditions of the Kennedy family, but also a cynical, hypocritical betrayal of his own political beliefs and personal feelings about Trump, which have been publicly documented for years and years,” Baldwin wrote to his more than 250,000 followers.

“His support for Trump shows his political cowardice,” said Baldwin, 61.

A representative for Kennedy did not immediately respond to ITK’s request for comment.

Baldwin was referring to a statement released last week following the endorsement of Trump by five of Kennedy’s siblings who supported Vice President Harris’s bid for the White House and called their brother’s endorsement of Trump a “betrayal of the values” their father and family held dear. He said he was severing his relationship with the former presidential candidate.

“I also completely distance myself from Bobby Kennedy Jr.,” Baldwin said.
