Jackpot Winner: Mass. State Lottery Player Buys $2.64 Million Megabucks Ticket

A lucky Massachusetts State Lottery player purchased a jackpot-winning Megabucks ticket at a country club in Leicester on Saturday.

The ticket, worth $2.64 million, was purchased for $2 at the Hillcrest Country Club on Pleasant Street.

Another player from Massachusetts bought a winning $50,000 Powerball ticket at a Market Basket in Chelmsford on Saturday.

In Megabucks, players select six numbers between 1 and 44 and mark the number of draws they want to use the same numbers for. Each spin costs $2 and draws are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 9pm ET.

Players who match all six numbers win the jackpot. They have a one in 7,059,052 chance of winning the jackpot.

In Powerball, players select five numbers between 1 and 69 and one Powerball number between 1 and 26. They then choose how many drawings they want to use those numbers for.

Players who match all five numbers and the Powerball number win the jackpot. They have a 1 in 292,201,338 chance of winning this way.

Players who match four numbers and the Powerball number win $50,000. They have a 1 in 913,129.18 chance of winning this way.

The Powerball jackpot prize stands at $44 million on Sunday. Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.

In total, at least 227 prizes worth $600 or more were won or claimed in Massachusetts on Thursday, including three in Springfield and nine in Worcester.

The Massachusetts State Lottery publishes a full list of winning tickets each day. The list only includes winning tickets with a value of over $600.

So far this year, the largest lottery prize won in Massachusetts was $1 million a year for life. The prize came from the lottery’s “Lifetime Millions” scratch-off game. The winner claimed his prize through a trust on July 10, opting to receive a lump sum payment of $15.4 million.
