    For the second year in a row, a team from Texas lost in the US Little League World Series finals, but the Southwest Region champions are not there yet.

    Boerne Little League will play the Latin American champion for third place on Sunday at the 2024 Little League Baseball World Series.

    The Texas team suffered its first loss Saturday to Florida, a team the Southwest Region champions defeated earlier in the tournament. Now, the Southeast’s representatives will play Asia-Pacific champions Chinese Taipei in the Little League World Series title game Sunday after Texas meets Venezuela in the third-place game.

    Boerne jumped out to a 4-0 lead in Saturday’s U.S. title game. But Texas suffered a series of pitching injuries and couldn’t recover after Florida scored nine runs in the final two innings. It was a stark contrast to Monday’s game, when Lake Mary Little League managed just one run against Boerne Little League.

    Last year it was Needville Little League that won the championship, but then lost two games in a row.

    Boerne LL will play in the third-place game at 10 a.m. Sunday at Lamade Stadium. The title game is at 2 p.m.

    • Boerne LL (Southwest) vs. Newton LL (Mid-Atlantic): Thursday 6:00 p.m. Boerne won 9-0.
    • Boerne LL (Southwest) vs. Lake Mary LL (Southeast): Monday 6:00 p.m. Boerne won 4-1.
    • Boerne LL (Southwest) vs. Paseo Verde LL (Mountain): Wednesday 2:00 p.m. Boerne won 5-2.
    • Boerne LL (Southwest) vs. Lake Mary LL (Southeast): 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Boerne lost 10-7

    2024 Little League World Series Schedule

    The LLBWS has two pools: one for the 10 regional champions from the United States and one for the 10 international regional champions.

    Where is Boerne located?

    Boerne is located approximately 30 miles northwest of San Antonio and 90 miles southwest of Austin. It is the county seat of Kendall County and has a population of over 20,000.

    The Boerne Little League Majors All-Star Team won the Southwest Region on Aug. 6 by beating Louisiana 6-3 with a grand slam, the Boerne Star reported.

    Why is Texas playing Venezuela?

    Venezuela was pushed into the elimination bracket with a loss to Japan on Monday. Like the Lake Mary team, Cardenales came from the back of the bracket to defeat a team that had defeated them before: Venezuela defeated Japan on Thursday.

    But the Latin American champions were no match for the Asia-Pacific champions in the international title game. Chinese Taipei remains undefeated with a 4-1 victory and has outscored opponents 36-4 in its five victories. Taiwan appears well on its way to a record 18th LLWS title, but a fighting Florida team has already defeated an undefeated Texas team. (This is the Florida team’s ninth title game, but the state has yet to win the entire tournament.)

    Texas was the last undefeated American team in the tournament and had three fairly comfortable victories thus far. Ace Julian Hurst helped Texas to a 4-0 lead against Florida, but after he left with a shoulder injury, Florida’s bats came to life. Now Texas is hoping to salvage a bronze finish on Sunday after burning several pitchers on Saturday.

    LLWS Pitching Limits

    No player can throw more than 85 pitches in a day, and no player can pitch three days in a row, regardless of the number of pitches thrown. Here’s how much rest Little Leaguers 14 and under need:

    • If a player throws 66 or more balls per day, four days of rest are required.
    • If a player throws 51-65 throws per day, three days of rest are required.
    • If a player throws 36-50 balls per day, two days of rest are required.
    • If a player makes 21-35 pitches per day, one day of application is required.
    • If a player throws 1-20 balls per day, no rest is necessary.
