Player Ratings: Real Madrid 3-0 Real Valladolid; La Liga 2024

Full player ratings:

Thibaut Courtois—7: A quiet evening at the office for the Big Belgian who only had to make two saves that evening.

Dani Carvajal—7: Never tested on defense and safe in possession. Finished the match with 4 tackles and 3 clearances.

Rudiger—7: Found Mbappe with an over the top pass which the Frenchman seized for a volley. The centre-back was fantastic in transition and was never tested by Andre or Meseguer.

Military—8: Has won his duel with Marcos Andre with ease. Three games into the season and seems to be back to his best.

Fran Garcia—6: Did well in the transition phase and showed his ability to recover, but offered little in the final third of the game apart from a low cross to Arda.

Tchouameni—5.5: Played too safe in possession in the first half. Improved in the second 45, upped the tempo and tried to be more vertical.

Fede Valverde—7.5: Scored the decisive goal early in the second half from a free kick that the Uruguayan fired in from 25 yards. Fantastic in defensive transitions and occupying the right spots in the “rest defense”. Both he and Tchouameni struggled in the first half with so much possession and neither was able to play that eye-of-the-needle pass between the lines.

Arda Guler—6.5: Switched between the #10 position and the right wing, but his teammates struggled to find him between the lines in the first half. The game opened up in the second half after Valverde’s goal and Arda had two good chances to score. In the 63rd minute he had another volley attempt in the penalty area. The Turk was visibly frustrated by his lack of clinical touch on the day. Finished the game with a total of four shots on target.

Rodrygo—6.5: Produced a brilliant solo run in the first half that deserved a better finish to the game. Has been the forward with the most rhythm and form to start the season. His dribbling was silky smooth and seemed to combine with quick one-twos at every opportunity. Had a golden chance to score himself or set up Vinicius with a simple tap-in but squandered the opportunity with an under-hit pass.

Vinicius Junior—6.5: Found Arda Guler twice in the second half with mature decision making. Played an inch perfect outside the boot pass to Mbappe but the Frenchman couldn’t manage the right connection. Much improved in the second half versus the first half, like most of the team.

Kylian Mbappé—5: Made a couple of quick runs behind the defense to start the game, with Rudiger finding him on one of those plays. His off-ball moves aren’t always seen by his teammates, with a chemistry still developing. Disappointing finish after being found by Vinicius Junior in the six-yard box. His final play of the game was a 1v1 after using his speed in transition and his toe-poke again failed to find the net.

Replacements:

Brahim Díaz—9: Combined well with teammates on the pitch and alternated between right and left, playing mainly as a left midfielder in a 4-4-2. Scored the second goal of the game in the 88th minute by lobbing the keeper. Also contributed with an assist to Endrick in the 96th minute to decide the game.

Luka Modric—7: In his new role, he consistently ensures calm and smooth play in the last 30 minutes of the match.

Dani Ceballos—7: Provided an extra midfielder to see out the game. Performed well in tight situations and was always an option when in possession.

Endrick—8: 86th minute substitution for Kylian Mbappe as central striker. Fierce entrance, direct attack and sliding tackle of his opponent. Valverde tried to find the Brazilian with a low, driven pass to the far post, but the Valladolid defence cleared him. In what felt like fate, the 18-year-old scored a brilliant goal in the 96th minute from a pass from Brahim Diaz.
