Lando Norris praises ‘incredible’ McLaren pace as he reflects on the moment he knew he could beat Max Verstappen to take victory at Zandvoort

Lando Norris was delighted to bounce back from a difficult start to take his second F1 victory at the Dutch Grand Prix. The McLaren driver called his car “unbelievable” after crossing the finish line more than 20 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen.

After a slow start when the lights went out, polesitter Norris lost the lead to Verstappen as the Red Bull shot forward into Turn 1. However, the Briton began to close the gap as the laps went by, before overtaking the reigning world champion on lap 18 of 72.

From there, Norris enjoyed a dominant drive to the chequered flag and, reflecting on how it felt to be a race winner again after stepping out of the car, the 24-year-old – who took his debut victory in Miami in May – replied: “It feels great again.

“I wouldn’t say it was a perfect race because of lap 1, but after that the pace was really strong, the car was incredible today. I could feel comfortable, I could push and pass Max, which was the most important thing, and go from there. Quite an easy race to be honest, still tough but really fun.”
