Stepfather chops two teenage girls to death, flees in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Two girls aged 15 and 13 were found murdered with a machete in their rented house in Kaveri Layout near Hebbal on Saturday night. Preliminary investigation revealed that the girls could have been murdered by their stepfather, who is on the run.
The deceased girls were in grades 9 and 8 at a school near their home. They had attended school and returned home before they were hacked to death.
Police said the accused stepfather, identified as Sumeet and aged around 40, fled the scene after committing the crime. His phone is switched off. The girls were found with injuries on their heads and necks, an officer said.
The incident took place between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM when the girls’ mother, identified as Anitha, was working in a factory. Sumeet returned home and allegedly hacked the duo to death over disagreements with them. The incident came to light around 8:00 PM when Anitha returned home and found her daughters lying in a pool of blood.
Anitha is originally from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, while Sumeet is from Dehradun in Uttarakhand. Anitha claimed that she married Sumeet nine years ago and lived with him and her two daughters from her first marriage.
Anitha told the police that Sumeet used to scold her daughters over trivial matters.
The police have registered a case under Section 103 (murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, based on Anitha’s complaint and constituted a special team to arrest Sumeet.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Sajeeth VJ visited the crime scene to assess the situation. In addition, the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) team conducted a thorough search of the spot, during which crucial evidence was collected.
