Udupi kidnapping, rape case: BJP raises 'Love Jihad', urges govt to take strict action

Bengaluru, Aug 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) Raising the specter of ‘Love Jihad’ in Karnataka on Saturday, the BJP alleged that atrocities against Hindu women are on the rise. The party urged the state government to take strict action in such cases.

The demand came against the backdrop of the abduction and rape of a young woman in Karkala town in Udupi district.

BJP state general secretary and former minister V Sunil Kumar has urged the state government and district administration to take strict action against what he termed the “increasing atrocities against Hindu women”.

He stressed the need to identify all the accused involved in such heinous acts and take strict action against them.

Speaking to media representatives in Bengaluru, Sunil Kumar stressed the importance of district administrations instilling confidence among victims.

He also demanded that the government bear the full cost of medical treatment of the victims and that the police take all possible preventive measures to avoid such incidents.

Sunil Kumar expressed concern over the incidents of violence and rape against women, noting that these acts appear to be premeditated.

He stressed that the recurrence of such incidents is alarming.

He further stated that the drugs were purchased and given to the victim after which she was abducted and subjected to gruesome acts.

“This is not the work of one person, but appears to be a premeditated conspiracy,” he said.

Sunil Kumar pointed out that previous awareness campaigns had emphasised on the theme of ‘Love Jihad’, and this incident seems to reinforce those concerns.

Sunil Kumar also announced that he plans to launch a large-scale awareness campaign against such crimes.

He regretted that young women are falling prey to temptations time and again, with all the tragic consequences that this entails, which is very disturbing for society.

He promised to intensify the fight against ‘Love Jihad’.

On Saturday, an incident came to light in Karkala town of Udupi district where an Instagram friend abducted and raped a 21-year-old woman.

The incident took place in the limits of Karkala Town police station. The police have arrested two persons in this connection and the victim has been admitted to the hospital.

The case took a turn when Hindu organisations alleged that the victim was a victim of gang rape.

However, the police have ruled out the possibility of gang rape and are warning of strict measures against those who spread rumours.

The arrested persons have been identified as Altaf and Savera Richard Kardosa.

Sunil Kumar commented on the ongoing spat between the state governor and the ruling party’s complaints over Thaawar Chand Gehlot’s return of 15 bills. He criticised the government for allegedly trying to cover up its mistakes by blaming the Centre and using the governor as a scapegoat.

Sunil Kumar wondered if this was the first time that the Governor had sent back a bill.

He argued that the unwarranted criticism of the governor was unfounded.

Sunil Kumar accused the Congress of claiming to protect the Constitution while continuously engaging in unconstitutional activities.

He criticised the party for allegedly seizing Dalit land and committing unjust acts against them and for not treating the governor with respect. He wondered whether these actions did not amount to unconstitutional behaviour.
