Ride goes wrong: Motorcyclist in Mumbai's Bandra (W) takes a gamble on traffic rules with 49-year-old businesswoman

MUMBAI: A 49-year-old businesswoman said she endured a terrifying ordeal on Thursday when a motorcyclist chased her off-road vehicle for almost 10 minutes in Bandra (West) and allegedly threatened her with rape. The incident took place around 12.50 pm when the woman, on her way to her workplace, pointed out to the motorcyclist that he had entered a prohibited lane at Pali Naka in Bandra (West), which angered him, the Police.
Bandra police have filed a complaint SPAR against the unidentified man on Thursday. “The team is looking for the accused. We are checking the CCTV footage to identify the accused and the bike registration number to trace his whereabouts. He fled when he saw the woman calling the police,” a Bandra police officer said.
The incident took place between 12:55 and 13:05 when the woman left her home in Pali Naka to drive to work. In her complaint, she said: “When I saw the cyclist riding in a prohibited lane, I pointed out to him that he was violating traffic rules. This made him angry and he cursed me and said that he was heading to a nearby building.”
Despite her attempts to ignore the biker’s verbal abuse, he continued to pursue her. “After a 10-minute chase, he managed to intercept my vehicle and threatened me, shouting that he would rape me,” the woman alleged.
A police officer said she stayed in her SUV and dialed 100 to contact the police. A case was filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act.
