Several people have reportedly been killed and seriously injured in a stabbing attack at a festival in Germany.

Tonight at around 9:45 p.m. local time, a man is said to have attacked random passers-by in the city of Solingen in the west of the country.

Dozens of emergency services are on site.

Police have reported a serious incident.

The attack took place during festivities celebrating the city’s 650th anniversary in the Fronhof.

According to the Solinger Togeblatt, the area around the church square is still cordoned off and a fire at Café Kersting has been cordoned off.

According to witnesses, the suspect fled.
