Adelaide woman, 40, caught eight times for drink driving after crash

An Adelaide woman has consumed more than eight times the legal drink-drive limit, one of the highest levels ever recorded in South Australia.

Police said the driver was found unconscious behind the wheel after her silver Ford sedan collided with a black sedan on Ledger Rd in the Adelaide suburb of Beverley, in the city’s west, at about 2pm on August 10.

She was taken to hospital, where she had a blood alcohol level of 0.416.

The legal limit in South Australia is 0.05.

The 40-year-old woman’s driver’s license was immediately revoked for 12 months and she will have to answer to the judge at a later date.

On Friday, Sunrise South Australian reporter Hayden Nelson told viewers that “fortunately police were the first on the scene after a low speed collision with a car about two weeks ago”.

“She had a .416 (and according to the doctors) that can be enough to kill you,” Nelson said.

“Police say the 40-year-old woman was slumped behind the wheel of her car. When they (police) opened the door, she vomited and a bottle of wine fell out.

“It’s lucky they caught her before she did any more damage.”
