Strahinja Jokić, the brother of Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić, appeared in Denver County Superior Court on Wednesday to face an assault charge and was issued a protective order ordering him to stay away from the alleged victim.

Shelly Bradbury of the Denver Post It was reported Thursday that the charges stem from an April fight at Ball Arena in Denver during a game between the Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers.

In addition to the protection order, Jokić must appear in court again in October to enter a plea and be fingerprinted.

He is charged with third-degree assault after video footage showed him punching a man at the stadium following what police described as a “verbal altercation.” The alleged victim spoke to police and said he suffered a concussion, as well as cuts and bruises to his face.

Jokić, who was charged in July, said he was defending an elderly man he knew.

The Nuggets star’s older brother also found himself in trouble with the law in 2019 when he was “charged with assault and accused of choking and shoving a woman, then preventing her from calling 911,” according to Bradbury.

He eventually pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, trespassing, and a misdemeanor, obstructing a telephone service. However, the trespassing charge was dropped in 2022 after he completed the terms of the court’s unsupervised probation rules and committed no other crimes for two years.

Charges of unlawful imprisonment and assault in that case were dropped as part of the plea agreement.

Jokić is often seen courtside at Nuggets games and has helped celebrate playoff victories with his brother and the team.
