LAFC acquire midfielder Lewis O’Brien on loan from Nottingham Forest

Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today that the club has acquired midfielder Lewis O’Brien from English Premier League side Nottingham Forest through 2024 with a club option to purchase. O’Brien will occupy an International Roster Slot and will be added to the roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa. LAFC acquired O’Brien’s Right of First Refusal from DC United in exchange for $50,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM).

O’Brien, 25, joins LAFC after making 23 appearances (18 as a starter) on loan at Middlesbrough in the 2023-24 English Championship, providing one assist in 1,576 minutes.

The Colchester, England native made 17 appearances (17 as a starter) on loan for DC United from April to July 2023, scoring one goal and providing one assist in 1,515 minutes. He has established himself as a key player in midfield for United.

O’Brien originally signed for Nottingham on 20 July 2022 from Championship club Huddersfield Town, where he was named Academy Player of the Year in 2017–18. O’Brien made his debut for Nottingham Forest on 6 August 2022 and scored his first EPL goal on 16 September 2022 against Fulham FC. O’Brien has made a total of 17 appearances in all competitions for Nottingham Forest.

The 1.73m (5ft 8in) midfielder made his professional debut on 8 September 2018 with English Fourth Division club Bradford City on loan from Huddersfield Town and has made 46 appearances for Bradford City. He returned to Huddersfield Town in 2019 and was named Player of the Year for 2019–20 after finishing second in the league with 121 tackles. He made a total of 131 appearances in all competitions for Huddersfield Town, scoring eight goals and providing 10 assists before transferring to Nottingham Forest.
