New green space, “The Fringe,” coming to downtown Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — A gravel court in downtown Bowling Green is undergoing a dramatic transformation into a vibrant new green space. Dubbed “The Fringe” for its lush grass and location on the edge of several popular downtown locations, the new area is shaping up to be a vibrant place for recreation and socializing.

The Fringe will feature seating and dedicated space for food trucks, offering residents and visitors a new way to enjoy downtown. Located adjacent to the downtown parking garage and near Bowling Green Ball Park, the project is expected to breathe new life into a site that has sat vacant for years.

“We want this to look nice and, you know, for whatever reason, it’s just been a little unlucky,” said Bowling Green City Manager Jeff Meisel. “For the last 13 years, this has been a gravel lot here since the garage was built. We wanted to do something different. We have plenty of parking here, so why would we just turn it into another parking lot? We wanted to do something different.”

The city has partnered with multiple organizations to secure materials and support, making the project both economically viable and community-focused. Construction on the Fringe began July 15 and is expected to be completed in the fall.
